A Little Yard Sale Enlightenment!

Have you ever heard the saying, "one man's trash is another man's treasure?" With spring upon us, it's the perfect time for yard sales, whether you're shopping at one or having one yourself. I love yard sales! I feel like I get more excited to see what other people are selling than to sell my stuff. I will usually have one at least once a year at my house. I like to find that next special piece that's going to go perfect in my home, or the next cheap piece of furniture I can fix up and re-sell. Whatever you're looking for or "not looking for," and whoever you do it with, you are bound to find some treasure.

I have had a lot of yard sales over the years; therefore,I have learned some things about how to better prepare for them. Every time I have one, I always think of something new I should do for the next time. So I wanted to share with you some of the things I do every time I have a yard sale. Hopefully after reading these tips, you will feel ready to have your yard sale.

1. Go through everything- Always go through everything you can. You don't want to do a yard sale and feel like you still have stuff you need to get out. Try to plan a few weeks ahead of a sale so you can give yourself time to do this.

 2. Change Please- Start will at least $20.00 in change. Also make sure you have quarters. People will pay you a dollar for a 50 cent item, so you want to be ready for that.

3. Organization- Tables, boxes, and bins, oh my! You will need these things to be more organized. Its will really help to keep all alike things together. A lot of the smaller stuff will go on the tables. Boxes and bins are nice to put things in like, shoes, stuffed animals, books, etc. I also have a clothes rack that I bring out to hang things on. Usually, there will be a few sheets laying on the ground to arrange clothes on.

 4. Signs- You want to make sure you have enough signs for your sale. I really like to get the big neon poster board at the dollar store. It's bright and will catch the attention of people driving by. Also, make sure when you are drawing the arrows, they are going the right way. I have done this, and trust me, it can make a difference on your traffic.

5. Pricing- While you are having your sale, multiple people will ask you multiple times how much something costs. If that doesn't sound fun, then wait until you're trying to add up a purchase or figure out change and people are asking you. I know it's a little extra work, but it really helps when you price most of your stuff. Have a box with stuff for a dollar in it, or a bin with quarter stuff in it. Additionally, get the little neon sticker tags from the dollar store and price different things. Be careful not to price items too high or they won't sell. Here is an amazing guide to help you price things you're not sure about.

I am not a professional by any means, but I like to think I have enough experience to give a little advice on the subject. I am actually getting ready for a yard sale in the next few weeks, so this was the perfect time to write this. I hope my little tips help you with your sale. As a matter of fact, all of this talk is making me want to go and check out some yard sales this weekend! Thanks for reading and good luck to you.
